Do you ever have days when you dread getting up in the morning? Yes, me too! The last question on my mind is “HOW TO PLAN YOUR DAYS TO BE LESS BORING AND MORE PRODUCTIVE?”
Today was one of those days that I woke up feeling tired and discouraged. I had zero motivation or desire to do anything. I wanted to stay in bed all day long. Plus, I didn’t want anybody to bug me or need me.
Perhaps you had a tough day or a tough week or even a tough month. It’s really hard when you try to stay excited about your daycare business, but noting is working. Your days seem long and boring. Every minute feels like an hour. “Is the clock not working?” “How come it’s only 9am?” You feel overwhelmed and cranky.
So in hopes for a day to go by faster, you might spend a little too much time on Facebook or perhaps you let the kids watch one too many shows on TV. But then you realize you are still stuck in the rut, and now you are also feeling guilty.
Come on, we’ve all been there. The struggle is real.
Being a daycare provider can be lonely and isolating. Partly because we don’t have any adults around to help us decide what to do, how to do it, or when to do what. If only we had a clone of ourselves to help us stay focused and motivated throughout the day.
So how do we plan our days to be less boring and more productive? How do we take control of our time so we don’t waste it?
Here’s a simple solution that worked for me over and over again:
CREATE A DAILY SCHEDULE AND A ROUTINE.
That’s it. Simple as that. Everybody can do it.
Schedule your day from the time you open, until the time you close. I’m talking every single hour. For example: 8:00 – 8:30 breakfast. 8:30 – 8:45 clean up. 8:45 – 9:00 potty/diaper change. 9:00- 9:30 music time etc. Got it?
Write it all down so you will see “what to do next” which will make your life more organized and less chaotic. The kids will love it, and so will you. I promise. Give it a try for a few weeks and see what happens.
And if you are anything like me, wake up early in the morning and give yourself an extra 30 minutes before you have to dive into your busy day.
Take time to eat breakfast, drink coffee, pray, watch the news, exercise or do whatever it is that will help you to start your day right. The time I made for myself every morning before the craziness began, made a huge difference in my daily functioning.
Be intentional about your day and what you do, so you can be more productive, keep your tasks on track, and have enjoyable days; both at home, and at daycare.
