What To Do When Things Don’t Go As Planned In Your Daycare Business

Have you ever been to Disneyworld or Disneyland? Dsineyworld is one of my favorite places to visit – even the long lines don’t bother me much! I know, crazy… but it’s true!

I assume you already know that it all started with one guy, Walt Disney. He was a shy man who had courage to dream big and was not afraid to go for it. It is so fascinating and inspiring to me.

I love this quote by Walt Disney:

“It is kind of fun to do the impossible.”

Do you ever feel like your daycare dream feels impossible?

Maybe you are just starting and things are not going smoothly. Or maybe you have been doing daycare for a while but you lost your spunk and determination. Do you feel stuck in a rut?

Friend, you are not alone.

On the opening day of Disneyland, the event was televised with 90 million viewers watching, and things did not go as planned. As the gates opened, paint was still wet in some areas of the park and asphalt was soft on the Main Street causing women’s heels to sink in deep! It was overcrowded with people who entered with counterfeit tickets. Rides broke down and restaurants run out of food and refreshments. What a day!

But how did Walt Disney respond to the opening day? As soon as he found out about what went wrong, he and his team took necessary steps to fix the problems. He was determined to make things run smoothly. Walt did not give up or have a pity party for himself. Instead, he continued on his journey and fixed what needed to be fixed.

You and I have the same ability.

As we open our doors each morning, it gets busy quickly. Breakfast has to be served. Diapers need to be changed. Parents forget to pay us. Kids are fighting. Toys are being broken. Chaos! And we still have another 10 hours to go….

Perhaps your daycare is still a “work in progress” even though the “big opening day” already happened.

Maybe you are still creating your daily schedule and routine, so that your long days can be less chaotic. Or you are making changes in your contract, so you can be paid on time and not questioned about every single day you take off. Or maybe you are working on a new menu that is more budget friendly, so that you are not wasting a lot of food and money. Or maybe you want to be more organized, so that clean-up time does not turn into a disaster.

Whatever your challenges are, don’t give up. I encourage you to learn from Walt Disney to be brave, determined and successful. Start by addressing daycare problems first, and then work on them one by one. You have what it takes to make necessary changes and overcome difficult obstacles. No matter how imperfect things might look at the moment, you can turn them around.
